Peter Molyneux Reveals Juicy Details About Fable 3

17 Comments February 12th, 2010

Whilst at the Microsoft X10 event, GameSpot were able to secure a video interview with Fable mastermind Peter Molyneux. The interview, in which Molyneux was kind enough to reveal some very interesting and unique features, spans a total of 8 minutes and is definitely worth a watch.

A few of the key features worth paying attention to during the video includes:

Your Gamerscore will Influence your Weapons

Gamerscore (total number of achievement points) affects your weapons. According to Molyneux, your weapons will appear differently to your friend’s if there is a substantial in Gamerscore. This, to me, sounds like a brilliant idea and something I personally haven’t witnessed in a game before.

I think it would be excellent if this kind of functionality extended to different areas of Fable 3 too. Perhaps your character’s appearance could in some way be affected by Gamerscore?

The Ability to Trade Rare and Unique Weapons

Not long after Molyneux mentioned that your hero’s weapons will be affected by your Gamerscore, he also mentioned that you will be able to trade your unique weapons with friends. I love the idea of Molyneux encouraging Fable 3 gamers to mix and socialise. I would also like to see something along the lines of a “marketplace” approach idea to trading items and weapons implemented.

Molyneux is Very Interested in Natal

I’ll be honest: The upcoming motion capture technology know as Natal does not interest me in the slightest. In fact, I would much rather gaming moved away from motion controls and return back to the days whereby we all exclusively used game pads.

Anyway, Molyneux expresses great interest in incorporating Natal support into Fable 3 but makes it clear in his video that the primary method of play with be using your control pad. So, for those of you who were concerned you would have to fork out for the Natal kit (when its released) to play Fable 3 should be able to sleep easy tonight.

Fable 3 Definitely Coming Out This Year

Molyneux said it himself! Fable 3 will indeed be released this year. My prediction is that we’ll be able to get our hands on Fable 2 in October.

I don't like the gamerscore thing. I like playing new games because it is a fresh start, but in this case, the game relays on your past playing? That's just retarded, they have to consider that not everyone plays the xbox 24/7 or puts a lot of care into their gamerscore. And not everyone has friends either…

A high gamer score doesn't necessarily mean better, it just means different. I would imagine that the weapons are just going to look different but their "damage" would be standardised.

if they went along with the gamerscore idea its gunna piss alot of people off. i mean people with a higher gamerscore are rewarded by having better (damage or visual) weapons than people who just play the xbox now and again for fun and dont really care about acheivments.. thats pretty stupid :p

they should have a option to whenever your happy with your weapon you can turn off the morphing. EXAMPLE: say I make a sword of balverine slayin' (hopefully the balverines in this game won't be fish with legs) and you want to keep it like that, but balverines are only avalable in one area of the game, so after that area your killin' different enemies the sword eventually becomes blade of bandit killin', then your gonna be like "damnit now I gotta go back there and kill like 50 balverines again" Unless you got the ability to turn off weapon morphing.

The gamerscore bit is a massive letdown. I'm more of a PC gamer, and only have a few thousand points on my 360. I'll still play the game, but as far as Fable 3 news goes, I haven't been more disappointed. I hope it's nothing too significant, because I'm certainly not buying and playing the endless pride parade of identical (and terrible) first person shooters and war games, just to earn points for a weapon.

maybe the gamerscore deal will only be affected by the points you earn while playing fable III he wasn't very specific.

Agreed to the max it would be a failure if lionhead decided To go n overall gamerscore because that wouldn't be fair on a majority of gamers but I'm still hoping that there isn't going to be a huge mass of acheivement fo online becase like me slot of gamers don't have xbox live.

I can't wait till fable 3. I think people should stop worrying about the gamerscore stuff because its probably not as big a part of the game than what people are suspecting.

I love freshfan20's idea! If they did only change the weapons on your acheivements within the game that would make a lot more sense! And be funner also :) I only have a couple thousand gamer points (most from fable 2) so hopefully thats how they do it!
