More Fable 3 Details & Gameplay

Fable 3 had a very brief moment on the stage at E3 with only a trailer, but it was a different story on the show floor with a fully hands-on demo available for those in attendance. IGN had the opportunity to take the game for a test drive and it appears to be more than just a “Fable 2.5″.

You will play as one of two children. One who has gone on to rule Albion with evil deeds in mind, and the other whose goal is to claim the throne. Set around 50 years after Fable 2, you will be able to import your saved games, but the data will be limited to your character’s gender and decisions made in the second game. Selection lists have been done away with for a 3D hub, where you will now be able to walk into a dressing room to change your apparel by slipping it on rather than selecting it from a list, same for equipping magic and weaponry. This also goes beyond inventory management where you will now be able to walk into stores and instead of purchasing items from a list, you can walk into the shop where all the goods will be on display in shelves and you can select them there.

For the first time ever in a Fable game, your character will now have a voice as opposed to being an adventurous mute like in the previous two titles. Lionhead’s decision for this was to add more weight and dignity to the story that they felt was missing from the previous entries. The combat is more of the same from Fable 2, but more fluid. “Flourishes are unleashed by simply holding down the attack button, and the action is often underlined with cinematic swings and zooms of the camera,” says IGN.
