Gamepro tells what they experienced with their hands-on demo of Fable 3. While they were given only 5 hours to experience what Fable 3 had to offer, from the author’s point of view, the changes made were extremely noticeable.

It seems Fable 3 is heading away from it’s RPG aspects and is becoming more action-oriented. The author claims combat to be more fluid than in past games. The health bar has been eliminated, replaced instead with visual and audio clues to your heroes health. The spell system from Fable 2 has also been replaced, favoring instead magic-infused gauntlets. There is not much detail given here either, however one can assume different gauntlets have different spells equiped on them, perhaps requiring charging for differing levels.

Experience has been done away with, and instead you purchase abilities and upgrades through the use of Guild Seals. The Sanctuary is quoted as “a glorified pause menu”, and is where you find all your items and stats. This place also has a cheeky butler, and leads to the ‘Road to Rule’, which is the place you spend you spend Guild Seals to become stronger.

The expression system seems to have had an overhaul as well. Instead of an expression wheel, the player instead simply presses the A button to begin interacting, and chooses from a list of expressions to use, able to hold the action as well like in Fable 2. It is being called “Expression Touch”. It also seems people’s opinions and feelings toward you will have more an impact this time around.

Alignment also has changed a bit, instead of making physical changes upon the character, it instead affects your weapons and equipment. Not much detail is given here however.

In the end, the author notes that while Fable 3 is shaping up to be quite the amazing game, it still has a little ways to go as far as in-game presentation, surely to come in the days to follow.

As the development of Fable 3 nears its end, programmers and testers begin the grueling task of pre-release testing. Peter Molyneux mentions how much testing has been done, and how much more has yet to be done. He goes on, explaining that for how many bugs a game can have toward the end, there are things that need to be removed entirely, for the sake of eliminating bugs. At the end of it all, he wants people to know that even he can’t know the end result of his own design until he pops the finished product into his very own X-Box 360!

Molyneux comments: “I mean it is the funniest, the most dramatic, the most crafted, the least confusing, the least gimmicky game I’ve ever worked on for sure,” he concluded before laughing and adding, “but I’ll probably be slagging it off in two years time.”

We can only hope at this point that the items and quests, along with neat-o features that we all want don’t get removed. If not then we still have DLC’s and updates to look forward to!
