Fable Bosses: Wasp Queen | Earth Troll | Twinblade | Rock Troll | Evil Nymph | White Balverine | Arachanox | Whisper | Thunder | Kraken | Maze | Jack of Blades

Fable Boss: Wasp Queen

Fable Boss: Wasp QueenDifficulty: 1 Star Difficulty
First Encounter: Quest 3 – Wasp Menace
Recommended Weapon: Bow / WIll

Wasp Queen Overview
A combination of your bow and lightning magic is what’s needed here as your melee weapons are rendered virtually useless by this giant Queen wasp. Fortunately for us though, this boss serves as a warm-up for what’s to come in the world of Fable and isn’t particularly difficult to overcome.

The wasp has very limited attacks; one being a diving stinger attack where it will attempt to lunge at you and spear you with its razor sharp stinger. It will give off a high shrill noise before it uses this manoeuvre so be prepared when you hear that sound. The second attack is where the Queen wasp will spin in a frenzied circle, creating a dust cloud that will summon several smaller wasps to attack you, these are the same weak variety of wasps you faced in a previous mission so they shouldn’t be too much trouble.

To defeat the Queen wasp, simply keep your distance so you are able to predict her attacks and evade them easier, and keep launching arrows as well as cast a few rounds of lightining at it. This really isn’t a difficult boss at all.

Fable Boss: Earth Troll

Fable Boss: Earth TrollDifficulty: 1 Star Difficulty
First Encounter: Quest 6 – Trader Escort
Recommended Weapon: Bow / Long Range Weapons

Earth Troll Overview
The Earth Trolls are a sort of mini-boss, they are quite rare towards the beginning of the game but become slightly more common in the later stages. Their two main attacks consist of a long range rock-hurling attack and a ground-pounding smash when you are close.

In the earlier stages of the game, you are better off just to sticking with the bow and firing off arrows whilst dodging the rocks that they will chuck at you. Keep your distance and continue strafing around the target and there’s a good chance they will miss with every rock they throw. They do however have alot of health, so be sure to trade your bow for a newer model as you progress through the game.

Fable Boss: Twinblade

Fable Boss: TwinbladeDifficulty: 2 Star Difficulty
First Encounter: Quest 7 – Find the Bandit Seeress
Recommended Weapon: Melee Weapons

Twinblade Overview
Fortunately Twinblade’s bark is much worse than his bite, and doesn’t pose much of a challenge. He’s a slow, lumbering villain who will attempt to shred you to ribbon with his twin… umm… blades? He will swing them whenever you enter his proximity, but believe it or not his attacks aren’t all that damaging provided you have levelled up your health or defence up to this point.

The key to defeating Twinblade is by evading his attacks with a swift roll, allowing him to swing away until he drives his swords into the ground, he will waste valuable time attempting to pull them back out of the turf allowing you to roll behind him and hack away for a brief few seconds. This is his only real weakness; attempting to strike him while he is looking in your direction will do nothing but land yourself in trouble.

Simply repeat this sequence and a cutscene will play once you have weakened him enough.

Fable Boss: Rock Troll

Fable Boss: Rock TrollDifficulty: 1 Star Difficulty
First Encounter: Quest 8 – Find the Archaeologist
Recommended Weapon: Bow / Long Range Weapons

Rock Troll Overview
The Rock Troll’s are almost identical to the Earth Troll’s, attack-wise anyway, although they do however taller and rather stronger than their weaker Earth Troll cousins. Their only real unique attack being a a rocky explosion attack that they will attempt to hit you with when you are in close proximity, which has alot more range than the Earth Troll’s melee attack. The same strategy applies however, stick with your bow and you can’t go far wrong.

Fable Boss: Evil Nymph

Fable Boss: Evil NymphDifficulty: 2 Star Difficulty
First Encounter: Quest 8 – Find the Archaeologist
Recommended Weapon: Bow

Evil Nymph Overview
The battle with the Lake Nymph isn’t so much difficult, it’s more tedious than anything. Provided you trade a replacement for the young boy then you won’t even have to fight it at all! Then again, that’s the easy route and heaven forbid we walk down that road…

Any who, the nymph has a nasty habit of summoning a massive cluster of hobbes at regular intervals, if you have the Force Push technique handy then that will certainly help buy you some time to either give it a quick whack or shoot some arrows in its direction.

After a rather lengthy amount of time you will be victorious and earn yourself a lovely small boy as a prize, you can either flog him down the market or return him to his sweet old gran; whatever suits you, really.

Fable Boss: White Balverine

Fable Boss: White BalverineDifficulty: 3 Star Difficulty
First Encounter: Quest 9 – Kill the White Balverine
Recommended Weapon: Melee Weapons / Will

White Balverine Overview
The fight with the White Balverine will take place at two points, towards the back of Knothole Glade and eventually near a lake outside of the town. You will notice that the White Balverine is in fact alot larger than its typical balverine counterpart, as well as stronger and faster. I highly insist you equip a “light” weapon for your skirmish with this boss because if you carrying a heavier weapon such as the Obsidian Hammer or anything else of that nature then the White Balverine will be able to swipe you with his claws before you can even take a swing!

In the first meeting with the White Balverine – in the town – your job will be to scare it off by landing 10 strikes; this will be enough to make it escape to recover. Once this is done you will be prompted to finish the beast off once and for all and pursue it to the lake.

Use whichever weapon you added the silver augmentation to, whether it be your melee weapon or bow, and really start going hell for leather (hitting it like a madman). After a short while the beast will begin to howl and call forth regular balverines to aide it. I recommend focusing all of your attention on the White Balverine and healing whenever possible; try and ignore the lesser balverines if you can as killing them will only mean that more will arrive to replace them. Force Push is definitely essential for this one.

Once the White Balverine is defeated, then turn your attention to the little beggars.

Fable Boss: Arachanox

Fable Boss: ArachanoxDifficulty: 3 Star Difficulty
First Encounter: Quest 10 – Fight in the Arena
Recommended Weapon: Bow / Long Ranged Weapons

Arachanox Overview
This giant scorpion looks terrifying at first sight, but can be relatively easy if you’re fully prepared for it. The key is to keep your distance, whip out your bow and start launching arrows as fast as you can; the more distance the better as this will give you more time to prepare and dodge its charging attack. Melee combat is strongly discouraged as Arachanox will simply swipe you with its massive pincers.

Another attack to watch out for its underground vine attack, where Arachanox will propel lengthy vines underground and shoot up from under your feet. Make sure to use a swift barrel roll when you see this coming.

Towards the end of the fight it will begin to head underground itself and summon several weaker scorpion offspring which can be killed in a single hit. Just give them a whack and once all have been killed then Arachanox will reappear for a short while.

Fable Boss: Whisper

Fable Boss: WhisperDifficulty: 2 Star Difficulty
First Encounter: Quest 10 – Fight in the Arena
Recommended Weapon: Melee Weapons

Whisper Overview
Considering that she’s one of the main heroes in the game and your rival, she really doesn’t pose much of a challenge at all. She is however quite a bit faster than you and is constantly on the move, meaning your bow wouldn’t be the best option for this fight; stick to your strongest melee weapon and spells such as Slow Time, Assassin Rush and Multi Strike if you have them available.

She will toss a grenade in your direction at regular intervals, which leaves her vulnerable for a few seconds enabling you to get a few slashes in before she does. The same applies for when she uses Battle Charge. Once she has completed the manoeuvre you have ample time to take a few swings at her.

Her defence is rather low which helps make this is a rather short fight. Not only that, but once her health reaches quite low the fight will be interrupted by a cutscene. Although I don’t want to give anything away I will say that you have the option of continuing the fight or not.

Fable Boss: Thunder

Fable Boss: ThunderDifficulty: 2 Star Difficulty
First Encounter: Optional Side Quest
Recommended Weapon: Melee Weapons

Thunder Overview
Ahh, Thunder – I’m sure we all knew it would come to this! Lionhead Studios wouldn’t throw a great big monster of a man into Fable without us having to have to give him a good kickin’. And obviously if you’re fighting Thunder, it means you took up the optional Mayor’s Invitation side-quest.

You will need to rely on your melee skills for this battle as he is immune to lightning (surprise, surprise!) and his heavy armour makes him resistant to arrows. However some spells work rather well against him, such as Fireball and Ghost Sword.

He prefers to attack toe-to-toe but will take advantage of his lightning attack whenever there’s some distance between the two of you. Keep looking for openings between his attacks and take advantage by giving him a few swipes whenever you get chance. Once you have zapped a good portion of his life away, the two of you will fall off the cliff and the fight will continue below, although he doesn’t change his strategy so the previous rules apply.

And after you deplete another chunk of his health bar he will march into a cave and the final fight will continue there. Once again, although the venue has changed he still fights with the same techniques so take advantage of what you have learned so far and finish him off.

Fable Boss: Kraken

Fable Boss: KrakenDifficulty: 2 Star Difficulty
First Encounter: Quest 13 – Rescue Scarlet Robe
Recommended Weapon: Bow / Long Ranged Weapons

Kraken Overview
The Kraken boss definitely ranks top for being the largest enemy in Fable; he easily takes up the entire space of the pool. Fortunately though, provided you are nippy on your toes, you can defeat this boss without taking a single hit; strafing and barrel rolling are the key.

The first part of the battle will consist of the Kraken hiding underwater and only using his tentacles to attack. Keep in mind that it will attempt to smack you with its massive tentacles. A barrel roll is all that’s required to evade them though, so concentrate on taking out each tentacle one by one and eventually when all are disposed of, the Kraken will show itself; and is it ugly!

The Multi Arrow Will technique is a great help here and will help dish out maximum damage upon the Kraken. Keep firing away and casting the spell whilst evading the monster’s laser beam attack that will shoot from its mouth. Eventually it will return underwater and you will have to face the five tentacles once again before the Kraken will re-emerge. Repeat this procedure until victorious.

Fable Boss: Maze

Fable Boss: MazeDifficulty: 3 Star Difficulty
First Encounter: Quest 14 – Head to Hook Coast
Recommended Weapon: Melee Weapons / Will

Maze Overview
Oh no! Maze, you swine! Oh well, time to give the old man a good kickin’. He is certainly the most difficult enemy you face up to this point and does come across as a tricky adversary at first. However, learn his strategy and you will be able to predict his every move.

He will begin the fight by casting Physical Shield, which as I’m sure you’re aware will render him invincible for a short while. Use this time to create some distance between the two of you and allow his spell to wear off. But bear in mind that he isn’t at all shy about engaging you in a fight. While he is swinging away try and either barrel roll or use the Assassin Rush technique to get behind him and get a few nice attacks in. Fireball also works especially well from a distance.

Eventually he will teleport back into the village. Follow him to his position on your radar and the fight will resume there. This time however you will have to contend with those Screamer ghouls that will keep distracting your battle – try and dispose of them quickly and turn your attention back to Maze. The strategy for fighting him is largely the same as before. Eventually he will teleport again into the tower near the village entrance; pursue him and the fight will resume.

After you have dished out enough damage to him in the tower, the final and concluding part of the fight will take place back in the town. Keep laying into him with everything you’ve got and you will be rewarded with a rather touching cutscene…

Fable Boss: Jack of Blades

Fable Boss: Jack of BladesDifficulty: 3 Star Difficulty
First Encounter: Quest 15 – Stop Jack of Blades
Recommended Weapon: Melee Weapons, Long Ranged Weapons and Will

Jack of Blades Overview
This is it – the final showdown where the hero faces off against the villain in the Chamber of Fate. However, it serves as a bit of an anti-climax that Jack of Blades isn’t particuarly difficult provided you have a decent stock of health potions and regenerative spells such as Heal Life, as well as some levelled up spells such as Fireball, Multi Arrows and Assassin Rush.

During the start of the fight, Jack of Blades will sit back and set his minions on you; you don’t have to worry about Jack for the moment, just concentrate on dispatching the monsters at hand. Once they are defeated Jack will enter the fight – do not attempt to hit him with regular weapon attacks as he will simply deflect them. Your best bet is to rely on flourishes to cause some damage as they do work especially well. Try not to linger around him too long though as he will counter attack with a vicious sword swipe.

Whenever there is some space between the two of you I suggest you use your Assassin Rush technique to close the gap. Once you have managed to diminish some of his health he will return the center of the room, power up and levitate out of your reach, as well as spawn a constant flow of minions. He will also rely on magic for the remainder of the battle. At this point you should start taking advantage of your Multi Arrows and Fireballs to cause some damage – it’s actually possible to ignore the minions and take no damage from them if you continuously strafe around Jack. Whenever he fires magic in your direction you can either continue strafing or hide behind a nearby pillar if they become a bit difficult to dodge.

Continue this strategy until he is defeated and you are deemed the greatest hero in all of Fable. Although you have one final moral decision to make…

Bosses were awesome especially jake of blades and twinblades.

    • BeastyBoy

"Jack of Blades" not Jake… But I do love the original Fable, and still play it regularly. I hope that Fable III will live up to these two fantastic games, Peter truly
is a god among men when it comes to emotional connections of your character and yourself.

    • cnemire

only question is why is the jack of blades human form up but not the dragon

and my sister couldn't beat maze without dyieng but i beat him untouched so why is he not 1? same for archonox i almost died in the arena i entered with no phials or potionts one hit and i would have died and i came on him and never died i killed him easy
but yet thunder and whisper are harder then some of them cause they are just like us heroes that upgrade and whatever your stats are thats what they are also they have like 2 more spells and thats it

    • nathan777110

there is a much more reliable way to kill jack of blades lightning the first spell you get why as long as you are shooting it continuously he wont do a think summon monsters attack back anything
also it takes a while and when you run out of mana use mp potions as fast as possible (put it in quick use)

    • Cream

  • Allen529

    Why isn't the dragon mentioned?

  • cnemire

also on the troll "bosses" all you have to do is run up hug on them and strike with the sword when you see him about to jump use the backwords roll and charge back in easy kill

  • fableplayer8

oh in response to the steed issue, your steed should be able fight on your steed, you should be able choose what breed you want, your steed should have armor that levels up and your steed should be able to attack when riding, you may not want to always ride your steed so you may want the option to summon it, it should turn good or evil like your dog

  • fable geek

why is there a Queen wasp now that’s just plane to me , I prefer Jack of blades

  • mark

I GOT STUCK ON MAZE ITS A BASTARD TO BEAT CAN U TELL ME HOW TO BEAT HIM plzzzzz

They need to remake it and make the graphics better or something! I’m done ranting now thanks

  • Alan

Yeah, yeah, one final decision.I think I played Fable:TLC 5 times or more. But what about the Dragon Jack Of Blades?

    • Jessica

try different wortkuos that require a quick burst of energy, like sprints, because this is mostly what ski racing is about, racing down the hill for only 45 seconds. For me, I improve dramatically when i try and visualize different courses and breaking it down turn by turn and working out all the technical stuff, good way to pass time

  • grim

for trolls you can swing at the rocks they throw and if you hit it you get skill points and its sent back at him for more damage than a bow

  • grim

if you stand below jack and use inflame his life deplets fast

  • JNKM6793

Does Paige from fable III remind anyone else of Whisper? Juuuuuuust sayin XD

  • shalionos123

umm did the xbox version not have the jack of blades as a dragon boss like TLC did or did you just not show him?

  • the angel witch

I have to few health and mana potions for Jack’s fight which is a pain in the ass
